We’re sorry that you’re having trouble with your mobility scooter or powerchair. The most common problems that cause a scooter or powerchair not to start and their solutions are listed here:

  1. Scooter has completely run out of charge – plug scooter into charge for at least 3 hours (Rascals & Shoprider Wispa – built in charger under flap at back of scooter, otherwise a separate charger is supplied)
  2. Still plugged in and on charge – unplug the charger
  3. Key has been left in scooter, causing it to go into sleep mode – turn the scooter off and then on again
  4. Lever on the bottom back of the scooter has been left in freewheel mode – push the lever back down.
  5. Levers on the bottom back of the powerchair have been left in freewheel mode – turn both levers 90 degrees.
  6. Cable (halfway down the steering column) has become dislodged – disconnect completely and push back in until you hear it click (Rascal scooters only)
  7. Scooter has been driven for a considerable time on low speed, causing the motor to trip – turn off the scooter, press the reset button once, then turn key back to on position (Rascal – reset button is beside the charge indicator at the back, Shoprider – reset button is under the seat)
