Here are answers to some of the questions we are often asked. If you have different questions, contact us.

Where do I go to get equipment or adaptations to make my home more accessible?

Access Point conducts Occupational Therapy assessments, either over the phone or by visiting you at home.

They can prescribe equipment such as rails, perching stools, grabbers and larger adaptations such as bath chairs or showers.

I can no longer drive and need some help with getting out. What is available?

If you are eligible you can get a bus pass from Brighton and Hove City Council.

If you are unable to use the bus you may consider applying for taxi vouchers instead. Information about this scheme is also available at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk

EasyLink is a local community transport scheme for people with mobility difficulties who have difficulties using conventional public transport.

I think I am being discriminated against because I am disabled. Can you help me?

Our Advice Centre can give advice and information about disability discrimination, and update you on current legislation. We are not a legal service and can only give advice, not advocacy. However, we work closely with other services that may be able to take up your case.

I want to go on holiday but I am struggling to find somewhere accessible/I would like my carer to come with me?

We can advise on a range of accessible options including holidays appropriate for disabled people with their carers and respite holidays. We can advise you on grants that may be available to fund a break away.

I would like to get into employment but I need extra support.

Possability People have  a community employment specialist. Have a look at our Community Employment Service section to see how we can help.

The Supported Employment Team at the council can offer advice about getting into work, help with CV writing and job placements.

I need assistance with applying for benefits or resolving a benefits situation

Our Advice Centre runs a service dealing with disability benefits. We do not deal with housing benefit, jobseeker’s allowance or other benefits that do not relate to disability issues.

I need assistance to apply for grants to help me improve my level of independence

We can offer advice and help you to identify appropriate grants. We can advise on the application process and may be able to offer support to make an application.
