GIG Meeting
Our Get Involved Group provides a relaxed social space for disabled people, and those living with long term health conditions, to come together. It is an informal drop-in that you are free to join in with as and when you can. The session runs from 1.30 to 3.30pm.
Meeting topic: Hidden Disability & Sunflower Lanyard Scheme
We will be exploring hidden disabilities – conditions and impairments that aren’t always visible to others.
Have you ever felt you needed to explain your disability or condition when you shouldn’t have had to? Perhaps when using a Blue Badge, asking for a seat on public transport, or accessing support or services? We’d love to hear about your experiences – what’s worked well, what hasn’t, and what you’d like people to better understand.
We’re also excited to welcome Ruth Rabet, a co-creator of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme. Ruth will tell us more about the scheme and, most importantly, hear directly from you. If you already wear a Sunflower lanyard, we’d love to hear how it’s been for you.
“The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces”. Link: HDS – Global
This is a fully accessible venue. No need to book.
